Southern Decadence :: Day 2

After a slow start because of a late night in the French Quarter we headed to the "Country Club" in New Orleans which has a pool, drinks, and today the Playgirl models (pictured) did a photo shoot. It is so hot here and although Decadence is in full swing and the streets are packed you do get to see the other eerie side of being in a city before a hurricane may hit as I watched Art Gallery's start boarding up doors and windows today.

The "gays" are in high spirits and in true decadence fashion are having fun but I think we all are cautiously watching and preparing to make sure we have a plan to get out should the Mayor evacuate the city.

Ironically, today is the 3rd anniversary of Katrina so that coupled with the fact that the levies will not be 100% fixed until 2011, I can understand the precaution at this point. Being from New England and living on the water, I am no virgin to hurricane's but we have never experienced a Katrina on the East Coast and the only hurricane I can recall that caused major damage was hurricane Bob.

Off to dinner and drinks and then the Lady Bunny show at the Bourbon Pub. If Lady Bunny made it from New York then I ain't worried...if Miss thing doesn't show up, someone get my ass out of here. (kidding.)

More to come...

Update: 6 pm in New Orleans. Mayor Nagin is starting a non-mandatory (yet) city assisted evacuation starting Saturday at 8 am.

I was watching on CNN about the weather there. I know the thoughts and good will of the nation are with you.

You follow Lady Bunny right out of town if necessary. I hope the army core of engineers has gotten things to a level of safety - and Lady Bunny hasn't been distracting them from their duties with her blinding talent. (loved her at the Trannyshack Kiss Off revue her in SF)
