GLEE SEASON FINALE

Home Values Have Been Stabilizing

U.S. homes lost $489 billion in value during the first 11 months of 2009. That’s significantly less than the $3.6 trillion lost during 2008 and evidence that home values are stabilizing, says Zillow.com, online real estate research firm.

Properties in 48 of the 154 markets tracked by Zillow rose in value this year, but Zillow’s Chief Economist Stan Humphries believes prices could decline again in 2010.

“We believe that demand will come under downward pressure as mortgage rates creep back up after the first quarter and that housing supply will experience upward pressure as the volume of foreclosures continues to remain high. Both these factors will challenge the recent stabilization of home prices," Humphries said in a statement.

Areas where home prices rose the most in 2009 were:
  • Boston
  • Providence
  • Denver, Colo.
  • Atlanta, Ga.
  • Rochester, N.Y.
Areas where homes continued to lose the most value:
  • Los Angeles
  • Chicago
  • New York
  • Miami-Fort Lauderdale
  • Phoenix

McDonald’s Manager Fired After Expletive-Riddled Call

The McDonald’s manager who left a trans teen a voice message declaring that the restaurant would not offer employment to "faggots" has been fired, according to a statement from the McDonald’s in question, which is located in Orlando, Florida.

"Sand Lake Road McDonald’s has a strict policy prohibiting any form of discrimination or harassment in hiring, termination, or any other aspect of employment in the organization," the restaurant’s Dec. 7 statement said, according to a Dec. 7 article posted at ClickOrlando. "The restaurant requires all employees to comply with local, state and federal employment laws." (Continue Reading-Source/Edge)

Reporter Fired for Private Anti-Gay Marriage Email

A reporter who blasted a gay equality group in a private email the morning after marriage parity was defeated in Maine has been fired from his job at a local newspaper.

Larry Grard, an 18-year employee at Waterville, Maine’s The Morning Sentinel, had not covered the marriage equality vote last month that saw gay and lesbian families in that state lose the right to marriage that the state legislature had approved earlier this year. However, when Grard came in to work the morning after Election Day and saw an email message from the Human Rights Campaign, a GLBT equality lobby group, saying that anti-gay animus accounted for the result, he took umbrage and fired off a note in response. Suspect in gay Puerto Rican teenager’s murder ordered to undergo psychological evaluation

A Puerto Rican judge has ordered the man who has reportedly confessed to the gruesome murder of a gay teenager last month to undergo a psychological evaluation.

Juan A. Martínez Matos, 26, whom local media have also identified as Juan José "Gasper" Martínez Torres, has reportedly confessed he murdered Jorge Steven López Mercado, 19, on Nov. 13 in a moment of "gay panic." Matos allegedly decapitated, dismembered and partially burned the teen’s body before he dumped it along a road near Cayey.

Matos is scheduled to return to a Caguas court on Jan. 13, but Pedro Julio Serrano of the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force was quick to express his anger over the evaluation. (Continue Reading-Source/Edge)

Obama Criticized Over AIDS Policy

There’s one thing about the Bush administration that some gay activists miss: the previous administration’s commitment to combating AIDS globally. For some, aspects of the Obama administration’s Pepfar (President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief) program fall short by comparison.

The controversy arises, according to a Dec. 8 New York Times story, out of a new focus on preventing the transmission of HIV, which causes AIDS--as well as a perception that the administration is choosing to fight less expensive international health wars, targeting malaria and other health issues as the expense of concentrating on AIDS.

"I’m holding my nose as I say this, but I miss George W. Bush," AIDS activist Gregg Gonsalves told The New York Times. "On AIDS, he really stepped up. He did a tremendous thing. Now, to have this happen under Obama is really depressing." (Continue Reading-Source/Edge New England)

WGB: Correct me if I am wrong but didn't Bush only start making strides towards AIDS issues in his last
(8th) year of Presidency? I agree more needs to be done but I feel this "activists" comments were done very flippantly.

The favorites win with ease in Senate special election

Low turnout had no effect on the favorites during the Tuesday, Dec. 8, special election to replace the late U.S. Senator Ted Kennedy. Democrat Martha Coakley and Republican Scott Brown easily advanced to the finals, which will be decided on Jan. 19.

Coakley, the state’s attorney general, won handily over her fellow Democrats, netting 47 percent of the vote. Her closest competitor in the four-person race, Congressman Mike Capuano, took home 28 percent. (Continue Reading-Source/Bay Windows)

Sarah Palin on Endangered Polar Bears and Global Warming

I just had to share this post in it's entirety via JMG because it just this woman just baffles the hell out of me!

Quote Of The Day - Sarah Palin

"I've always believed that policy should be based on sound science, not politics. As governor of Alaska, I took a stand against politicized science when I sued the federal government over its decision to list the polar bear as an endangered species despite the fact that the polar bear population had more than doubled. I got clobbered for my actions by radical environmentalists nationwide, but I stood by my view that adding a healthy species to the endangered list under the guise of 'climate change impacts' was an abuse of the Endangered Species Act. This would have irreversibly hurt both Alaska's economy and the nation's, while also reducing opportunities for responsible development. Our representatives in Copenhagen should remember that good environmental policymaking is about weighing real-world costs and benefits -- not pursuing a political agenda."- Sarah Palin, in a Washington Post editorial denying the severity of climate change.

"Does this even sound like Palin? Who really wrote this? AmericaBlog points out this Reuters story noting that things are actually so bad for the polar bears that they have turned to eating each other." (Source-JMG)

Are you a Lady Gaga fan?

I love this clip my friend John sent me of Lady Gaga being interviewed by someone who is asking her stupid questions. He keeps trying to tell her that her sexual nature detracts from her music. The Affirmation Declaration

The Affirmation Declaration is a statement that expresses the convictions of Christians all over the world. It was written in response to the now famous Manhattan Declaration, to correct egregious errors contained in the document, errors that have been preached in the pulpits of many local churches for far too long.

With the growing notoriety and support for the Manhattan Declaration, our Affirmation Declaration reflects an urgent need to respond to the portion of the Manhattan Declaration dealing with issues related to sexual orientation—specifically, homosexuality and same-sex marriage. We strongly disagree with the contention that same-sex attractions and the oft-resulting romantic activities are immoral.
